Established in 1996 by an experienced publishing team who share a passion for all things maritime, Chatham was created to produce well researched and readable books that are also designed and printed to high standards. Some have made important contributions to the field, but all, we hope, make worthwhile additions to the collector's bookshelf. With well over 100 books in print Chatham is already the chosen publishing house for many of the leading authors in the field, and has established important links with maritime museums, navies, academic institutions, specialist journals, and enthusiast organisations around the world. It is not difficult for enthusiasts to publish books for other enthusiasts, but we have also set ourselves the goal of promoting a wider interest in maritime affairs among the general public. After all, the sea is so central to the development of the world that in many ways the maritime past is history. What we publish We specialise in books on most
historical maritime themes, ranging from ship design to life
at sea, in varied formats from highly illustrated technical reference
books to reprints of classic narratives. Subjects include nautical
archaeology, naval or mercantile history and biography, exploration,
and ship modelling. |
